I am certifiably out of my mind. While normal people were getting beauty sleep I was hitting my refresh button until 1:30am and pleading with my computer screen bleary eyed. All for what? Bags from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target limited edition collection.
My fanaticism has reached a new extreme. With flashbacks of the Lanvin for H&M of which I reaped none of the goodness, I was determined to get a cheaper knock off of the much coveted Pashli bag…can it be called a knock off if it is the original designer producing it?
There was no way I was missing church to camp out outside one of the newly opened Canadian Targets (priorities people), so there I was on Twitter loading new tweets with the hashtag #philliplimfortarget every 5 seconds determined to get a link. The general theory was that the full collection would be live on the Target website at 12:00am PST, but those on the East Coast started to notice items being released one by one at midnight in their timezone. The faithful in the East stayed up until past 4:30am all for a chance to score the hottest ticket items–the bags. Unfortunately, the bags weren’t live until past 1:00am Pacific Time and even then a lot of refreshing and patience were necessary. We had to sneak in with key word searches since the landing page was still showing the collection as unavailable. I think the bags sold out completely in matter of 10 minutes.
I was ready to throw in the towel but after 2 hours of invested time I was being too obstinate to walk away. I was victorious and scored the only 2 items I wanted. The order was confirmed but hasn’t shipped yet. Fingers crossed that I don’t run in to any issues sending it to Ship Happens just across the BC/Washington border.
This is the first time and definitely the last time I will indulge in this type of fanatical consumerism. People offering obscene amounts of money to whoever could score their wishlist for them, others buying in bulk to sell at 10x markup on Ebay. I feel slightly ashamed of myself that I wasted all that time for bags, ya’ll. *hangs head* I AM NOT THIS PERSON!!
I stopped at Target this afternoon to pick up some travel essentials for my trip to New York tomorrow and it looked like the aftermath of a war zone. Employees looked slightly shell shocked as they fielded constant questions and phone calls from desperate fashionistas. There were a few strays left on the racks and to be frank I’m happy I skipped the clothes. The quality and silhouettes were really nothing to camp out for in my humble opinion. But then again, I like more sophisticated, classic and preppy looks.
So fellow fashionistas, did you get caught up in the #philliplimfortarget craze or were you strong enough to withstand the pressure? Which pieces do you think were worth the hype?
