The blogosphere has been abuzz for the past week about Laura Mercier’s newest highlighter for the Dark Spell Fall 2013 collection, Spellbound. From the swatches I have seen online it looks positively gorgeous and definite must-have but it has yet to release in Canada and I have consoled myself with another gem from Laura Mercier’s current Summer collection.
Matte Radiance Baked Powder Highlight was released in June along with several bronze shades of the same formula. There was a notable lack of revelry surrounding this product considering how phenomenal and desirable Laura Mercier’s highlighting products are.
An ultrasmooth baked face powder that provides natural colour with soft matte radiance.Wake up the skin, and provide natural colour with a radiant, healthy glow for a flawless, no-makeup look. Sheer, buildable coverage lets you customize your glow, while the modern, multidimensional matte finish imparts a hint of soft luminosity. The ultra-lightweight formula feels weightless on skin and applies smoothly and blends effortlessly. The smooth, silky, velvety texture feels comfortable, while the long-wearing formula lasts up to eight hours and stays colour-true without oxidizing for an even wear.
I agree with everything in the very apt official description except one glaring exception: THIS IS NOT MATTE. They could get away with dubbing this as a satin finish, but certainly not matte. Although it is thankfully void of glitter and sparkle, the complexion lifting powder has a gorgeous luminosity and iridescence that belies the matte descriptor.
The highlighter is in a word, stunning. I have put it through the paces of varied summer weather and it has withstood wind, humidity and heat. Adjustable to varying strengths of colour pay-off this highlighter does not emphasize pores and blends seamlessly in to the skin. Heavy swatches are provided to show the dimension of the powder but it sheers out to lovely subtle glow that mimics a from-within radiance that so many other highlighters have tried and failed in shiny glory to achieve.
