In July on the eve of my 25th birthday I took a big risk and did something for the first time. I dyed my hair…Well I didn’t do it, Linda did and it was just highlights. But, it was still a big deal for this peroxide virgin. My hair is my security blanket and I have always been resistant to change. Ever since I started seeing Linda at Vancoouver ‘s Lure Salon I have lost all of my scissor phobia and the next logical step was to experiment with colour.

I adore Minka Kelly’s hair so she was the point of reference for this mini-makeover. Linda added thin caramel highlights through the front and around the crown of my head and then free handed pieces underneath. She chose a colour that naturally exists in my colour profile (since everyone has multi-dimensional colour, with or without dye). Overall the look is subtle and natural. In short, I love it and don’t know what took me so long to do this!
My hair has grown 3 inches since July and my next appointment isn’t until December (!), but regrowth is not a problem with this look. Because the highlights are so thin and placed strategically for blending, they will grow out to give an almost ombre look. I am already considering what my next colour experiment should be.
How was your first experience with hair dye? Did you love it or hate it?
